Climates
What is the difference between weather and climate? Give an example, or two…
The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope. BARACK OBAMA
What is the difference between weather and climate? Give an example, or two…
I really didn’t know what weather nor climate was either. I had an idea but maybe not the right answer. But ever sense we learned more about climate and weather I have a very strong idea on what it is and the difference. The difference really is the measure of time. Weather is a conditions of the atmosphere are over a short period of time. Climate is how the atmosphere of how it works over relatively long periods of time. What is your thoughts on it now?
Can you think of what is the difference between Weather and Climate.
Do you have a general idea of what it is? I think you know what weather is so you could probably say something about what you know about about weather and climate already, but weather is one of those things not all people understand it.
I really don’t know that much about climate and weather but I think I have an idea of what it is. So the difference of weather and climate might be well climate of the weather sort of, like it says things that the weather doesn’t such as how hot it is in different states but with weather it’s that you have to look up a place and a town and the city to find the weather.
I kinda agree with you! You could go into more detail of what exactly weather is like how the weather has to do with temperature, precipitation, wind speed etc. With climate yeah I agree that it has to do with states having a different temperature but maybe you could go into detail of why that is.
Great!, I think you meant to say climate is a subsequent temp over a time while weather is just over a small place and only for a day or so.
I have a general idea of the difference of weather and climate, and this is what i think is the difference. Weather is the temperature, wind speed, pressure, etc. of an area for a day or week, like a weather report. Climate is the average temperature wind speed, pressure, etc. of an area over time, like a climate map. What I don’t understand is why the climate is a average of an area?
I think that weather is the changing vectors of natural forces. Ex., lightning, rain, sunny, foggy, etc. For climate, I’m not entirely sure what it is, but I think it’s the basic weather pattern for an area such as over in FL where it’s almost always raining or sunny or in Canada where it is pretty cold most of the time. As before I don’t exactly know what climate is, so can someone respond so I know?
Hello Kaid, when I look back at your guess of what climate was I see that it was correct. Congratulations! Though I do wonder what you meant by the changing vectors of natural forces, and I hope you can explain that to me.
David O. Carlson, that is a great question and I’ll be more than happy to answer it. What I meant about “changing vectors” was the different factors that determine weather and climate such as lightning, rain, fog, etc. I’ve also got a question for you. Can you please explain to me more on your definition of weather and climate?
weather is the precipitation, temperture, humidity and wind speed and other info.
climate is the average of weather over a period of time.
hey kaid, i think you know now what climate is after our previous unit, do u?
p.s. climate is the average of weather.
Kaid I think that you are right on the weather but I don’t no why you used the word “changing vectors.” You said that you don’t under stand the climate that well. Here is an eample = In class yesterday Jennifer said that the climate at her house is different from the climate at solway. The reason is that Jennifer is close to a lake and the lake makes the climate change becuase the the lake lets off heat.
I don’t know much about this but I think that climate and weather are similar. Climate is the weather in a certain area that is recorded over a long period of time. Weather is if it will precipitate or not, and it also is the temperature , the pressure, and the wind.
Anna, so I can see what your point was with your comment and I do believe that you were going in the right direction. I can tell that you did the best that you could so good job on that! Although you were going in the right direction, you said that “climate is the weather in a certain area that is recorded over a long period of time.” and I was a little confused on that because we are comparing weather and climate but you used weather in your definition of climate. My guess is that you didnt know what climate was at the time, am I correct? But believe me I was confused also so I am not trying to put you out in the open and point out all of the critiques!
I see how you are confused Karlye. What I meant when I used weather in the definition of climate was that climate is the weather that you keep the data about and make a record of. The climate is recorded weather of time in a given area.
Ok yes now I understand! When I wrote this comment I also had less knowledge on what I know now so If I were to read your comment now I would probably know what you meant.
Ok! Sorry for the confusion. I’m glad I was able to clear it up for you! Once again sorry about that!
I do not really know what the difference is. My best guess would be that weather is different kinds of thing in the atmosphere over a certain period of time (for example: temperature, amount of wind, precipitation, and dryness). Climate is more referring to clouds, pressure, wind speed, and things like that.
To follow up on my comment, I now know that Weather is the conditions of the atmosphere over a short period of time and climate is the conditions over a long period of time.
I don’t really understand the concept but I get the gist of it. The difference between weather and climate could be that climate is weather over a prolonged amount of time in a wide area. Weather is the precipitation, wind speeds, etc. happening during the present.
I think that the climate is the average temp, wind speed and pressure.I think the the weather it the day temp and the wind speed, pressure.what I don’t get is the there can be different climate in different areas.
I can see where you are going with this and I agree with your idea, but I think I know why Climate is different in other areas. If you are closer to a small or large body of water, the heat stays in longer and slowly gets colder, if you are not close to water, then it will get cold fast which means a shorter warm span.
weather is the precipitation chance of clouds or sun, the temp and humidity all mixed into one weather report.climate the south is hot, north is cold, west is warm, and east is cold and warm.
i agree with you on weather but i think you couldve went more in depth about climate, like say that the climate is the weather over a long period of time.
Climate is the temp, moister, humidly in your region and weather is what you get as result of your climate. For example you live on the west coast of the united states your probably going to experience warmer temperatures then if you live in central united states. The reason for that would be ocean currents effecting your climate. The east coast has ocean currents also but there a lot warmer, the east coast gets snow to every year. The west coast is dry and humid and they don’t get much perception, only about 10 to 15 inches per year. That is based on your live and what type of weather in parts of the year.
I don’t really know what the difference is but I think the difference between weather and climate is that weather is collected over a short period of time and climate is collected over a long period of time. Weather is the temperature, wind speed, pressure and climate is the average temperature, wind speed, pressure. What I would like to know is why you don’t need to collect data over a long period of time for weather?
Great question Lizzie! I think that the reason why you don’t need to collect data over a long period of time for weather could be because weather is what happens in the atmosphere during the present but i’m not very sure.
I don’t know if this is right, but I think the difference between weather and climate is that climate is the weather or the pattern of change in weather over a long period of time and weather is the current forecast. Like maybe air pressure or wind speed.
I mean I think that climate is the weather over a long period period of time. This probably isn’t right though…
i agree with you Priscilla, because i dont really remember a lot about weather and climate or understand some of it but i get what you are saying.
There are quite a few differences between weather and climate. Weather has more to do with the temp., humidity, wind speed, and precipitation on a given day. Climate has more to do with the area you are in and how the weather over the course of days effects it. For example: In the north there is a colder climate because the weather over the course of days was a lot cooler as compared to the south were its a lot hotter because the weather over the course of days was was a lot warmer making the climate in the south hotter.
I liked how you gave example on what climate is and saying the what the difference is between weather and climate.
I think you did very well explaining what weather is, I am a little confused on your thoughts about the North being colder and the South being hotter, as the sun does sit over the equator and as you get farther away from the equator the cooler it is. Also when you talk about your thoughts on what climate is would you care to elaborate, because I don’t quit understand what you think about climate and the differences.
Thank you Anna! About the north being colder and south being hotter you explained exactly what I forgot to say that the reason its hotter in the south is because its closer to the equator as in the north its further away from the equator making it colder. To elaborate on my thoughts of climate, I think climate has more to do with the temp. over the course of days and that averaged to give you the main idea of what the climate in that area would be.
Hey Rosey i didn’t know what climate was until i read your post i didn’t know it has to do more with the area you are in. Thank you for posting what you know so other people who didn’t know what it was but now i know. Your post was amazing posting what you knew about is awesome because some of us mabey didn’t know what it was but again thank you your post was amazing.
I really didn’t know what the difference was but since you like explained it
I kinda got a idea about what weather and climate are now.
I think that the climate is pattern of the weather when its comes around?
But to me it is still really confusing between climate and weather.
But what I wanted to know what the weather is I kinda know what climate is.
I don’t really know about Climate and Weather. I think it is Weather is a state of atmosphere it includes wind, heat, dryness, rain, etc. Climate is a prevailing in general a long period of time.
I don’t exactly know. But I think that weather is a thing that can change, for example its raining then its sunny. Then climate is the same as before it either is hot, cold, or a mix of both in the same cycle year through.
I like the hole cycle idea though it was a good idea. you could have made it a little more clear though but a good idea all around.
Climate is the weather of and area over long periods of time . Weather is rain, wind, heat, dryness, and storms. This what it think about weather and climate i know a lot about this stuff because i like to study the climates and weather everyday.
i don’t know much about weather and climate i have an idea though i think there both cause by the altitude. And climate is the weather over the years thats how they get the climate. climate is the over all years and weather is like perception and if its sunny or windy.
Kenyon looking at your post I see that you have put altitude in it. I find your thoughts about altitude intriguing but I have one question, how did you come up with altitude because altitude is the height of something? I can’t see what it has to do with weather and climate. On the other hand I love your post, you put a great answer and you made me think. Great job!
I know that climate is the average temperature of the area, in different seasons, and I know the climate is usually associated with the amount of precipitation the area gets year-round, or in a larger period of time. I know weather is the climate and more, like the wind speed and humidity, but usually people just look at the weather, or temperature for just one day, or a shorter period of time. I also wonder if the climate affects the weather, or if it is the other way around.
David, I think your correct about Weather and Climate. Good Job! But do you know if climate affects the weather? Because if climate is like weather, just a larger period of time, wouldn’t climate affect the weather? Also what are some other differences between Weather and Climate?
I now know climate would affect the weather, because if I was in a very cold place like the mountains, I probably would not expect to experience very warm weather in a high elevation, where it is normally very cold. Other differences between weather and climate is that weather involves more measurements, or more measurements of the state of the atmosphere, and the climate is basically the average of the amount of precipitation and temperature over a long period of time.
David how do you know how climate and weather are the same thing tell me more about weather and climate like what types of weather is in area so people now what to look like in areas. What climate will have more people in and less in what climate and where some animals might live cause people might want to go to those places but i think you did a good job keep it up David
Weather is like the temperature or the precipitation. The weather is constantly changing. Climate is the normal weather for that particular place, like the average temperature. The climate does not change much if at all.
I don’t know exactly what the difference is between the weather and climates. But I’m pretty sure that climate has to do with mostly just the temperature. I think that weather has to do more with everything and not just the temperature.
i am not exactly sure what the difference is but i think climate is the average of weather over a long period of time and whether is what is happening know and in the near future.example of whether would be that it is raining ,storming ,snowing, etc… now or within the next week. example of climate would like “the average temperature in Montana in -30 degrees in the past 4 winters.”
I don’t really know the difference between weather and climate. But i think climate has to do with the temperature. And weather has to do with wether its like rainy or stormy or sunny.
I think that it has to do with the average temp. Why do you think it has to do with what you said?
The differences between weather and climate. Climate is a group of results over the past couple of days or more to take a guess of what the weather will be tomorrow or days after that. Weather is a group of data that tells us if it is going to precipitate(rain, snow, sleet, and hail),what the temperature is going to be,how fast the wind is going and cloud cover.
What I think the difference its between climate and weather is that how the climate behaves during the weather like snowing, raining, thunder storm, tornadoes. Also another difference is I think is weather is created by a little bit of from the water cycle. Another difference between climate and weather is climate depends on where animals live.
Im not quite sure, but i think that climate is the average weather for on area, like how Africa has a hot climate or how Antarctica has a cold climate.I think weather is just how it going to be like in a day, like if its going to be rainy,or if its going to be sunny. So yeah that is what i think the difference between climate and weather is,if you have a correction or a comment just reply. 🙂
I don’t exactly know the difference from Climate and and weather, but I have a guess of what it might be. Weather is a pattern of change over a period of time, like starting out extremely hot, then turning to a dry, but cold Climate. And I think Climate is where it is windy, cold, hot, etc.
I haven’t really thought about weather and climate being like that because I kind of did the opposite of what you did. But do think air pressure could be part of climate because you said that you thought climate is where it is windy? But isn’t weather the forecast or something? because if it is then wouldn’t climate be the pattern of change in weather over a long period of time and weather be what you said climate was?
I kind of know what climate and weather is about. I’m pretty sure in understand what weather is more then climate. Say climate would be hot for a long period of time. While weather is a mixture of cold or hot, dry, or wet weather.
Weather is what it is like outside climate is what is going to be like later. Sunny and at 10 pm its going to be 46 degrees out. Its raining right now but it will clear up later.
Good examples, Jerricho!
I could have been more specific because I rushed it but I think your examples are pretty good. I like the hole cycle idea though it was a good idea.
I like your examples Jerricho, but I think that you should have used some examples for what climate means instead of just examples for what weather means.
I’m not 100% sure what the difference between climate and weather is, but I’m pretty sure that weather deals with temperature and adjectives to describe the weather, such as rainy, snowy, sunny, cloudy, warm, cold, etc. The weather usually deals with a specific date/time. Such as, “Tomorrow will be cloudy and in the 60’s.” or “It is 85 degrees out and sunny right now.” Whereas climate deals with the average weather over a long period of time. For example, Hawaii is known to be warm, and Russia is known to be cold.
The difference between weather and climate is that climate is the weather in a general area over an amount of time. And weather could change daily like tomorrow could be raining and today its sunny with no chance of rain.
Climate has the long term, and the weather is the short term.
climate is a long term and wheather is a short term. The difference is climate is a region with particular prevailing weather conditions and weather is the state of the atmosphere at a place and time as regards heat, dryness, sunshine, wind, rain, etc.
I have no clue what the difference is between these two.
I don’t really understand weather that well.
It’s just one of those things you know
