The Sun and Seasons

Why do we have seasons? How does that happen?

  1. Allyssa says:

We have seasons because of the way that Earth is tilted during a period of time. If the northern hemisphere is tilted on its axis toward the sun, it will be spring or summer. If it is tilted away from the sun it will be fall or winter. While the northern hemisphere is tilted towards the sun the southern hemisphere is tilted away from it so the north will have warmth and the south will have cold. The same goes for when it is cold in the north.

    • Allyssa says:

I claim that we have seasons because of Earth’s constant tilt. My evidence is that it is always tilted on its axis and as Earth orbits the sun, throughout the year we have changes in our seasons because of the way the hemispheres are tilted closer to or further from the sun. Also, the northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere have opposite seasons because when it’s summer in the northern hemisphere the tilt of the Earth puts the northern hemisphere closer to the sun, so in North America we get more direct sunlight and it’s warmer than in Australia where the season is opposite because the southern hemisphere is on the further side of the tilt and gets less direct sunlight so it’s colder because there is less available solar energy.

  2. Lexi says:

I claim that we have seasons because of the earth orbiting around the sun. As the earth orbits around the sun we get different amounts of warmth in certain areas, thats why in some places winter may be colder or summer may be warmer. However, I do also believe the seasons are labeled based on time and what may be happening. Such as when leafs fall off the trees we associate that with fall and when flowers grow back, spring.

    • Lexi says:

We have seasons because of how the earth orbits around the sun and how the earth tilts at its axis. As the earths tilts on its axis and the sun hits the earth at different angles we get different amounts of sunlight/energy in certain parts of the world. If the sun was hitting the northern hemisphere it would be winter in the southern hemisphere and summer in the northern hemisphere vise versa.

  3. susan says:

we have seasons because of our position on the earth. Yearly the earth tilts on its axis and makes our position either farther away or closer to the sun, thus creating summer and winter. To create spring and fall you will be in the position of being farther away from the sun so its colder but not cold enough to create snow and vice versa.

    • susan says:

We have seasons because our position on the earth determines how much sunlight and heat we get. Thus determining our seasons. For example the equator has less seasons than North America because the sun beats down on the equator more frequently than in North America, making North America have less sunlight and heat than the equator.

    • susan says:

I claim that we have seasons because of the earths tilt and how much sun light we get relative to our place on the earth. my evidence is that the equator is hot all year because they face the sun around the same place all year, as opposed to Alaska, where they are at a point where they get enough sunlight to have four seasons but as well are in just the right place to have 24 hours of daylight during the summer solstice.

  4. Elijah says:

The earth has seasons that change because of its position relative to the sun. It takes 365 days to complete one orbit around the sun, and the seasons are split up among those days. Geography can effect how long, and how intense a season may be.

    • Elijah says:

Additionally, seasons are affected by the earth’s tilt on its axis. The season in Australia will always be different then the season in the USA. This is because the tilt enforces less sunlight in certain areas and more in others, the areas with more sunlight are in summer, and less or sometimes none, are in winter. This changes throughout the months.

  5. Lily says:

I claim that the earths axis is the reason why we have seasons. because it tilts towards the sun so it’d be summer and after a good 6 months it’ll be winter. On the side we live on it’s pretty much the opposite for the other side of the earth because it isn’t facing the sun like our side is.

    • Lily says:

I claim that we have seasons because of how the Earth is tilted on the axis. So the closer the place is it’s either spring or summer. The more farther away the place is from the sun, it’s either winter or fall. Spring or fall is between the places that have summer and winter, because it’s both cold and warm.

  6. Shae says:

We have seasons because of the Earth’s orbit around the sun, which causes the Earth to have differing amounts of light shining on to it. The Earth is not moving in a straight line about the sun, but is actually tilted away from it, which causes us to have different seasons.

  7. Amaryllis says:

We have seasons because when the Earth orbits the Sun its at a angle so when more light shines on the part of the Earth that’s closer to the sun it’s summer. When more light shines on the part of the Earth that’s farther from the sun it’s winter. The change between those two seasons is spring and autumn. Spring is the change from winter to summer and autumn is the change from summer to winter.

    • Amaryllis says:

I claim that we have seasons because while the Earth orbits the Sun, it’s tilted at it’s axis. When the Sun’s rays shine more on the area closer to the Sun, it is warmer and it would be summer and for the part that is tilted away from the Sun, it is colder and it is winter. That is why we have seasons on the Earth.

  8. Mya says:

We have seasons because when the earth is tilted a certain way like if the northern hemisphere was facing out more towards the sun than people in North America and Russia and other countries in the northern hemisphere will have summer while countries in the southern hemisphere i’ll have winter. The reason it would be summer because the northern hemisphere would be closest to the sun which makes it warmer.

    • Mya says:

I claim that the reason we have seasons is because of the sun, the earth’s tilt and the earth’s orbit. The earth’s tilt never changes for thousands of years and the earth orbits the sun every year, when the north pole is towards the sun more than the southern pole it would be winter in the south and summer in the north because the north has more direct sunlight and energy then the south does. The same is for the south but the roles are switched. My evidence is from the texts we’ve read and the satellite videos we watched.

  9. Eben says:

We have seasons because of how the earth is tilting toward the sun. We have summer because of our area on the planet is being tilted toward the sun, but during the process of summer going to winter, fall comes up because of the transition, and it works the same way for winter going to spring.

    • Eben says:

I claim that earth has its season because of how it tilts stoward the sun. My evidence is that during the process of the earth orbiting around the sun the earth tilts on its axis towards and away from the sun. An example is if the northern hempisphere tilted toward the sun, it would cause the northern hemisphere to go into summer and the southern hemisphere to go into winter. When the earth tilts toward the sun, there is an increase in solar energy were the sun hits more directly causing higher temperatures. If the sun light hits the earth at an angle, the enrgy is less focused causing lower temperatures.

  10. Raegan says:

We have seasons because of our orbit around the sun. When our position changes, so can our season. Where we live on Earth can also change our seasons. For example, if you live in Hawaii you are way less likely to experience snowfall than someone who lives in Michigan. This is because Hawaii is closer to the equator than Michigan.

    • Raegan says:

We have seasons because of the Earth’s orbit around the Sun. While Earth orbits, it is tilted at an angle. When a certain hemisphere is tilted towards the Sun, it gets more direct sunlight and more heat, this season is called summer. When a certain hemisphere is facing away from the Sun, that part gets less direct sunlight and less heat, this season is called winter. When you are closer to the equator, you are more likely to get more direct sunlight, and it will likely stay warm all year.

  11. Kyleisha says:

I claim we have seasons because when the earth is not facing towards southern hemisphere it would be colder, while if tilted towards the northern it would be more warmer.

  12. Aji says:

The seasons happen because the earth rotates around the sun with a tilt. When a part of the earth has more sunlight during a period of time it is in the warm seasons summer, and spring. while if a part of earth isn’t getting as much sunlight as the other side its in its colder seasons like winter, and fall. thats why the 4 seasons exist on earth.

  13. Ally says:

I claim that we have seasons because the Earth that orbits the sun. One side of the earth will have completely different season, this is because of how the earth is tilted toward the Sun causing fall and winter to be more cool/cold and spring and summer to be warm/hot.

    • Ally says:

The reason why we have seasons is because of how the earth orbits around the sun and the tilting of the earths at its axis. When the earth tilts on its axis the sun hits different parts of the earth at different angles which is why there is not the same amount of light in every area at the same time. In parts of the northern hemisphere there may be direct light and with that comes warmer weather and longer days which means on the other side of the world it will be the opposite.

  14. cyrus says:

i claim we have seasons because the earth’s tilt. My evidence is that the earth is spinning that means that one side of the earth is constantly open to sunlight. And sense the earth is tilted the bottom or top half is colder sense not directly exposed to the sun. That means when its summer up here it’s winter down there.

    • cyrus says:

I claim that the reasons we have seasons is because the earth is at a twenty three degree angle. At that angle the top or bottom hemisphere is directly exposed to sunlight giving summer. While its summer up here its winter down there because they are directly exposed to sunlight and we are in winter and vise versa.

  15. Josh G. says:

We have seasons because the earth is revolving around the sun with a tilt with an average of about 23.5 degrees. So as the earth is revolving, different parts of the earth are closest to the sun and are getting the suns rays at a different angle. The side closer to the sun (split horizontally) is in summer because it is getting the sun’s rays more directly, while the other half is in winter due to the less direct rays of the sun. When it comes to spring and fall, they are just the transitioning seasons from summer to winter and vise versa.

    • Josh says:

We still have seasons because the earth is revolving around the sun with a tilt of 23.5 degrees. As the earth is revolving, different parts of the earth are getting the sun’s rays at a different angle. The side closer to the sun (split horizontally) is in summer because it is getting the sun’s rays more directly/concentrated, while the other half is in winter due to the less direct/concentrated rays of the sun.

  16. chello says:

The earth’s seasons are caused by its orbiting for example when the earth is going around the sun and America is facing the sun that means that it is America’s summer because the suns heat is hitting it and since it is not hitting the other side of the globe that means it is their winter.

    • chello says:

I claim that the earths seasons are caused by its axis and where you are and where the sun is, for example in September if you live near the equator then you will experience warmer weather than in the northern hemisphere because the sun is closer to the equator. if you live in the northern hemisphere you will get colder wether because the sun is far away.

  17. Maddox says:

I claim that we have seasons because the earth spins or tilts in different directions facing the sun. The hemispheres are the main sections that face either the sun or away from it.

    • Maddox says:

I claim that we have seasons because the earth’s axis rotates around the orbit. The hemispheres are the main areas that depends if we get sun or not and it changes. Because of the seasons because in winter the sun is not as high in the sky and which is why its cold in the winter if it was summer the sun would be higher in the sky which is why its warm. The heat is at its climax at noon.

  18. Kiara says:

We have seasons by how the Earth is tilted towards the sun, like if the sun is facing the Northern hemisphere it will have longer summers and the Southern hemisphere will have winter. The Northern hemisphere would have longer summers because it is closer the the sun than the Southern hemisphere.

    • Kiara says:

We have seasons depending on how the Earth is tilted. When the Northern Hemisphere is tilted towards the sun it has a warmer season like Spring and Summer. If the Southern Hemisphere is tilted away from the sun they have colder seasons like Winter and fall.

  19. Frank says:

I claim that we have seasons because of the way the earth’s tilted if it’s tilted at an angle it’s gonna be a season. How a place enters a season is that the earth’s rotation if Minnesota is summer then another place is vice versa from Minnesota

    • Frank says:

I claim that we have seasons by the Earth’s axis. If it’s tilted toward the sun it’s summer and if it’s tilted away it’s winter. In the summer there is more sun at noon because that’s the highest point of the sun in winter there is less sun because earth is tilted away.

  20. Robert says:

I claim that we have seasons because the earth rotates the earth goes around the sun and it takes a whole year to go around the sun. When the earth is going around the sun it changes seasons depending where you live at.

    • Robert says:

I claim that we have seasons because our earth tilts and if the earth is tilted towards the sun it’s summer and if it’s tilted a little bit on the other side where it doesn’t get that much heat. In spring it’s a little tilting towards the sun.

  21. daniel says:

Why we have different seasons is because of the earth’s distance from the sun. and how the earth is on a cycle around the sun with that difference it causes a different cycles of weather.

  22. Kashauna says:

I claim that we have seasons because the Earth can be tilted at different angles. For example, when one side of the Earth has tilted away from the sun, it may be winter/fall, or it may also have milder temperatures because it is not getting as much sunlight as the other side of the Earth. When one side is facing the sun, it is summer/spring and has warmer temperatures, because it is facing the sun, and the rays are easily able to access the Earth.

  23. Aurora says:

We have seasons because of the way the Earth is on its axis. Summer is when the sun is closer to the sun, winter is when it’s far away from the sun, spring and fall is when it’s far away from the sun and gets colder but not cold enough to have snow.

  24. briar says:

I claim that due to the earth tilting and spinning changes the direction the sun faces a different part of the earth. when this happens certain part of earths climate changes.

  25. grace says:

I claim that we have season because of the earth’s orbit. When the earth orbits around the sun depending on where the on where the sun is facing the earth that part of the earth would be summer and the sun’s heat affects the earth. Which thats what makes it have warm temperatures. Then the side of the earth that isn’t facing the sun would be winter because that’s the side that doesn’t have the heat from the sun.

  26. glenn says:

I claim that the earth orbit has to do with the change of the season because the earth changes orbit. Each part of the orbit is a different season. When the earth is further away from the sun its winter. When the earth is closer to the sun it’s summer.

  27. Cade says:

I claim that we have seasons because the earth orbits the sun so it heats different parts of the planet. But on the other side of the planet that is not heated it is very cold. If we are in spring now, then on the other side of the planet then when we move into fall. And because our planet doesn’t orbit in a perfect circle, different seasons have different temperatures.

  28. Conner says:

I claim we have seasons because of the way the earth is tilted on its axis. It takes the earth 365 days to orbit the sun so the seasons are roughly 3 months each.the seasons depend on the earth’s position relative to the sun. In winter no sun shines on that side of the earth there is also little to no warmth and it turns into night faster. For spring the sun hits maybe half that side of the earth.

  29. Gaven says:

I claim that we have seasons because of the earth’s orbit. This happens because when the earth is further away from the sun it gets colder thus winter comes and when the earth is closer to the sun it gets warmer and thus summer comes.

  30. JP says:

I claim that the earth has seasons because the Earth orbits around the sun. The Earth orbits the sun in an oval shape form and it depends on where you are at on Earth, for example if you were at Minnesota on the month June it would be in the summer or close to the summer.

  31. Lydia says:

I claim that the earth has seasons because of the way it tilts on its axis. This happens when the earth orbits, it tilts for a period of time. When the earth is tilted on it axis away from the sun, it causes colder weather and can be fall or winter. When the earth is tilted toward the sun, it causes warmer weather and can be spring or summer. Depending on the tilt of the earth the sun’s rays can be concentrated in a certain area, causing different seasons in the northern and southern hemisphere.

  32. susan says:

We have seasons because our position on the earth determines how much sunlight and heat we get. Thus determining our seasons. For example the equator has less seasons than North America because the sun beats down on the equator more frequently than in North America, making North America have less sunlight and heat than the equator.

  33. Samara says:

I claim we have seasons due to the Earth’s tilt on its axis while we orbit the Sun. My reasoning is the Earth is tilted on its axis. The tilt and the round shape of Earth cause the heat from the Sun to be spread unevenly across the surface of Earth. When a region is tilted toward the Sun it is summer. When a region is tilted away they experience winter.

  34. Vaeh says:

I claim we have seasons because of the way the earth orbits and how it tilts in the making of orbiting around the sun and when the Earth tilts it depends on where the Sun’s rays hit more directly, the Southern Hemisphere or the Northern Hemisphere. When the Sun’s rays are shining more directly on the Southern Hemisphere, the Northern Hemisphere experiences winter, and vice-versa.

  35. grace says:

The planets in our Solar System are different and alike in many ways. One of the most notable differences are their sizes and appearances as they range from all different sizes and appearances. Another difference is how far away they may be from the sun, the center of our solar system. This causes them to possibly get smaller amounts of light/energy. One thing that makes them different from the earth is that we know the earth can host life while it is likely that other planets cannot. However, we may not know if that’s true due to the fact that we cannot go and visit all other planets searching for a sign of life. I can only think of one similarity and that’s that they orbit around the sun. Although i’m sure there are far more similarities this is what I know.

  36. daniel says:

Why we have different seasons is because of the earth’s tilt on its axis and the way it faces the sun. And how the tilt on the earth axis cause different seasons in different areas because of the way the tilted and the one part that gets more sunlight than the other area and as the earth is on a cycle around the sun with that difference it causes a different cycles of season.

  37. briar says:

I claim that we have seasons due to the fact that when were facing away from earth(northern hemisphere) is having fall or winter while the countries on the other side of the world are having different weather such as summer or spring due to the light being directed towards that side of the earth(southern hemisphere) .
