Climate Change Today

How is the global climate changing? Think about what you have learned about climate change. Do you think that the world’s climate is changing? If so, what do you think will happen in the future? What will the climate be like in 20, 50, or 100 years?

  1. Bodi says:

The climate is changing by being warmer in colder areas and the antarctic is melting causing the oceans to rise.I think the climate in Bemidji Minnesota will be warmer because the pollution from our cars and factories are making the ozone layer thinner which makes the sun become hotter on the earth.

    • will.c says:

good job bodi, one thing tho co2 does not affect the ozone layer, chlorine does, the sun will not be hotter, we will just get exposed to more radiation, which will probably give us all skin cancer… in other words: ):O

      • Payton says:

What do you mean by that? I haven’t studied any of the co2 or anything like that on the climate change. How do you know the sun won’t get hot? Why win’t it affect the ozone layer?

    • Adam says:

I cannot tell if I believe in global warming. But it makes a lot of sense, but do you think that it ALL has to do with just humans, and how they pollute the planet,or is there something else to?I just said that because it seems impossible that humans can have THAT MUCH impact on the earth.

      • Marissa says:

Isn’t it crazy how much the human population can impact the Earth?! Yes, people can do these horrible things to our planet. Think about how long we have lived here. People have been here polluting the planet for so long now.
        https://www.edf.org/climate/what-sparked-global-warming-people-did
Although, I am interested to hear what you think this other thing might be that is polluting our planet. What, besides people, could be polluting and ruining our planet?

    • Will W. says:

Do you have anything to say about what you thinks going to happen with the worlds precipitation?

  2. will.c says:

The world’s climate is definitely changing but VERY slowly, in the future the climate in the tropics might make it uninhabitable, and bemidji might become a place that never has snow. In 20 years the climate will probably be unchanged, the same with 50 years.
The climate in 100 years will probably be a little bit warmer and 100 years after that warmer, and so on. I wonder what will happen after 10 or 20 times of that happening?

  3. george says:

I think that in the next 100 years it will gradually get colder as average temperatures start to decrease slowly every year because were inching closer to another ice age. On the other hand it could get warmer over the next 100 years. I’m really not sure what could happened to the climate in the 100 years.

    • will.c says:

no one can really know what the climate is going to be like in 100 years george, also there is probably not gonna be another ice age. GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE.
but im interested, why do you think there will be another ice age?

  4. kaydon says:

The global climate is changing everyday and sometimes we don’t realize that some of the things we do might cause that. Things like pollution can cause global warming, and many other things. Evidence that shows the climate is changing is the Ice age. I thinks in the next 20, 50, or 100 years the pollution will get worse and the global climate’s temperature will get a little bit warmer every year. Until it is at that point where we need to do something about pollution and try to stop polluting so much, but even after that the climate might not get better.

    • David says:

I also agree that the global climate is changing, and that evidence shows that it is changing. But do you think that pollution is the only cause to climate change, or human activity? I know that climate change is caused by changes in the greenhouse effect or gases, which are gases like carbon dioxide, or changes in how the sun hits the earth. Do you think any volcanic eruptions, or natural disasters can also play a role in climate change?

  5. Payton says:

I think the climate has change a lot. Because the amount of heat that is let into the system changes. Or it may could be he amount of heat that is let out of the system changes. For an a example warming climates are either due to increased heat let into the Earth or a decrease in the amount of heat that is let out of the atmosphere. I think maybe it’ll change a lot more because it did today. With climate back then and now. Maybe from a 100 years from now the Earth’s will increase temp and the snow and maybe more.

    • samantha says:

i agree with you Payton because i also think that the climate has changed a lot because it is getting warmer and we have less snow and more rain

  6. Karlye says:

Yes I do believe that the world climate is changing, considering back when dinosaurs were living, greenland was warm and now it is cold… Would the world really just stop climate change? I dont have very good knowledge about the past so I cant realy make a prediction on what it will be like in 20, 50, or even 100 years. However I do believe that temperatures will change, I mean who knows…In 100 years Minnesota could have the same weather as Florida.

    • Karlye says:

Now that I have done my research and project on the future climate, I have more knowledge on it. My final prediction is that the temperature will continually increase, and for precipitation I believe that rain amount will increase and the snow amount will decrease.

    • Anna says:

You have a good prediction, I like how you gave the example of greenland!
Though I was wondering what you mean when you say ” In 100 years Minnesota could have the same weather as Florida.” If the global climate is changing wouldn’t florida’s climate be changing too? Please elaborate on that, otherwise you did very well on explaining your thoughts.

    • Cameron Brown says:

Karlye you have a really good prediction you are telling us what you predicted and then commented again on how you said something like how you’re prediction was also right and how you found that but good job on that. if we do have get the same weather in 20, 50, or 100 years that will be insane. How did you know that the world can stop and have really cold weather? But great job Karlye!

  7. Lizzie says:

The global climate has been getting warmer melting the ice caps this is happening because of pollution from humans and global warming. I think that in 20 or so years its going to get way hotter because of humans and global warming.

    • Mikey says:

Lizzie I think your correct but I would have to say that it isnot just humans change if the climate it is also cows. Cows the big one change because they release a gas that is called methane which is CH4. How long do you think before the earth is completely dry if it is going to get so hot.

      • Lizzie says:

Michael I didn’t know that cows were part of the change in climate, I think that the earth will not get completely dry. Michael how did you know that cow let off methane? Thanks commenting that cows can effect the climate change.

  8. Anna says:

I know that climate will be different in 20, 50, or 100 years. I’m not exactly sure how it will be different, but I know that it will for sure be different. I do know that climates are changing because of global warming. Around the world the climates are getting less snowy, icy, and cold. I have a question pulling into even more detail about why climates are changing. Yes, it is from global warming, but what causes global warming? I believe that some of the cause of global warming is all of the pollution. Is there any other causes of global warming?

  9. Cameron Brown says:

I think that the world’s climate is changing by warmness or coldness for example: in some places are cold or hot, some places are warm and cold which makes it rain, humid, or really dry. Some places are really cold which makes it snow. I think the future will be sorta worse or better there might be heavy and bad snow or good, there also could be really bad rainfalls that could make it flood or just really good ones that don’t do much damage. The climate might be the same in 20, 50, or 100 years ago or I could be really good or bad depends we might never know what it would be 100 years go.

  10. Mikey says:

I think that the climate in 100 year is going to be warm with thin air because of all of the global warming. This year it was hot all the way till it snowed that one day and now it is going to be cold for a long time. How I now this, is that last year I do this thing with my family at the same time every year but this year there is going to be snow and that means that there was no snow last year is was cool out. What do you think is going to happen in 100 years.

    • Kaid H. says:

I think that is a great question, Michael, great job. I also think that the Earth is going to get warmer, but with more precipitation in the form of rain. I believe this because since the Earth does in fact warm gradually, more evaporation will occur in turn, causing more precipitation. Also, since the air will be warmer, if it does snow, it will melt on the way down or come down as snow, but melt very soon afterward. What I want to know Michael is this, why do you think the air will be thinner?

    • George says:

Do you really as soon as the snowfalls that will just Start dropping in temp or will take time?

  11. Rosey says:

The Global climate is changing. But its always been changing. But in this period of time the global climate has been changing phenomenally, due to pollution causing what we call global warming. In the future Im honestly not to sure, I don’t think I have learned quite enough to determine what will happen in the years to come. If I had to guess in 20 years the global climate will probably warm up, In 50 years I think It might not get hotter but get cooler because in 100 years we could possibly fall into another ice age! But I’m just guessing this otherwise I think as the years come it should slowly get hotter and hotter.

    • Karlye says:

Rosey, I can see that you made your point clear and you had super good knowledge on the question, either that or you just had a great prediction! I can see that your point is very clear and you had a good idea of future climate. One thing I was confused about was that you said the weather would be warm, then cold, then warm again. Which did not make sense to me because shouldnt the weather just keep getting warmer? Other than that I believe the prediction was fully reasonable! Great job!!!

      • Rosey says:

Thank you very much Karlye! and yes I was quite confused when rereading my comment over but what I think was confusing was me bringing in the ‘ice age’ thing and then saying ‘otherwise I think it should get warmer’ Just throw the ice age part out because I never really found any evidence of the climate getting colder and having an ice age will probably happen a million years from now.

    • Rosey says:

To follow up on my post I didn’t find any evidence about an ice age every happening I have only found data and temperature increasing and more precipitation.

  12. Kaid H. says:

Yes, I believe it is changing and quite rapidly for that matter. In 20 years I believe that the climate will not change much at all. With the 50th year, I think that the change of climate will be more noticeable and more serious, but not by much. As for the 100th year, I think that the climate will have an little bit of an affect on daily life, but not as bad as it could be later on. With all of the greenhouse gases that we are emitting, it is hard to know for sure. What I want to know is, could climate change have a serious affect on human life in the the future?

  13. hailey says:

I think the climate is changing. I think it is because of the heat let out but im not really sure.. I think in 20 to 50 years it will be a lot warmer and in 100 years
    probably more that that.

    • mya says:

i also think that the climate will get warmer, but what do you mean about the heat being let out?like do you mean the heat let into the atmosphere or the heat being trapped in?

  14. Mya L. says:

I believe the world’s climate is changing, even if it’s just getting a little warmer that’s still enough to change climate, the North Pole is melting faster than it ever has before and causing sea levels to rise, Mount Kilimanjaro’s glaciers are melting and they’ll be gone in a couple of years. I think in the future it’ll be warmer and certain places will be in risk of flooding.

    • Rosey says:

I agree with you Mya, the global climate is getting warmer but you didn’t exactly answer what you think the global climate will be in 100 years. So what do you think the global climate will be in 20, 50, and then 100 years from now?

    • natalie says:

i agree with you mya, you worded it very well and you made the points stand out. when you say furture when is that also where do you think it will be warmer.

  15. samantha says:

yes, i think that in the future the climate will be different because today all over the earth cold places and getting warmer and maybe even colder and the same for warm places. in very cod place like where polar bears live and where penguins live i think there is going to be be very little snow and coldness left so it would be hard for the animals to live there because most of the snow will have melted. i think for that the people who live in California that further in the future they will have more precipitin because even thought the climate is changing some people might say that place like for example California well be more dry but i precipitin that since climate is changing dry place well have more rain and raining places well have less and cold places will be more warm and warm place will be more cold.

    • Alera says:

I agree with your prediction about warmer places will be colder and and colder places will be warmer. I remember from the last Summer that it wasn’t as warm as the other two Summers, but the Winter stayed dry and cold like the last ones. I like how you included California in your post as to answer the question because it helps us to understand what you mean by dry places. But what I don’t get is how the climate changes so average from place to place?

    • Shai says:

Why do you think that Antarctica’s and the Arctic’s climate would change so drastically within the span of 100 years? From what I know, I agree that the global temperatures are rising but they are rising slowly.

  16. natalie says:

Ok so this is a real thing and people need to realize it, we are basically ruining the planet so the next generation will have to deal with it and by that time how are they going to deal with it there will all already be too many greenhouse gasses in the air. so think about it like this when you have kids and then your grandchildren have children is this the kinda planet that you want them to grow up in ( hopefully not ). in 20 years I think that the planet will warm up possibly 5-10 degrees which don’t sound that bad BUT ITS. In 50 years you already know its going down like bye if we don’t fix the problem but by then it would probably have warmed up 10-15 and by 100 HOLY MOLY we will all be dead because we are not made to sustained that kind of weather. so hopefully in the near ( I emphasize near ) we will make a drastic change and I mean drastic

  17. mason says:

i think it most likely is changing but within 20, 50, and 100 years it might change like the littlest of bits like maybe by year 100 it will have changed by maybe 3 or 4 degrees because it is not like it will have been 4.5 million years like in the last post where it went from basically warm to cold and back a little bit to even it out to be like today.

  18. Adam Walker says:

I think it is getting hotter, and in more areas it wil become warmer. There is a thing that i have heard of called global warming,I personally dont know that much about it,but i do know that the earth is getting warmer because of it.I have heard that all of the air pollution is popping big holes in something called the ozone layer which makes it so the sun is a lot hotter on the earth, making it warmer.

  19. luke says:

I think in the future it is going to get warmer because back then it was cold so i think it is going to get warmer because we are getting closer to the sun like murcery was and now venus in the second plant to the sun so would murcury was blow up we will be the second plant to the sun and plus back then it was an ice age and know its not so i think it will be warmer in the furture but know it is between cold and warm so we are able to have cold and warm days but people in the ice age didn’t have warm weather like we do now but now we got more stuff then back then and more food to eat the what they had then so we will get to explore more climate change today then back the.

    • Lizzie says:

Luke, I didn’t know that mercury was getting closer to the sun. Are you sure its not because of its rotation? I agree that it will get warmer in the future but I don’t quite understand what your are taking about with the planets. My reasons for the climate changing was CO2 levels and Greenhouse gases.

  20. josh says:

Global climate change happens because we are using our fossil fuels to much and too quickly and they are creating green house gasses that when they are in our atmosphere trap heat in so the earth slowly cools. In 20 or 50 years the world’s average temp will be much higher then it ever has.

  21. mya says:

yes the climate is definetly changing, the world is getting warmer and warmer, i think in the next 100, 50, or even 20 years the world will be really hot, maybe even to hot for us to survive on, and places like Minnesota wont have any snow, because cold areas are starting to get warmer, like the mountains are started to melt, causing the sea levels to rise.

  22. David says:

I do think the earth’s climate is changing. I think it is changing because I remember seeing data and research, showing an increase in the average temperature pretty much everywhere, over a long period of time. I don’t think the earth will change instantly, but I think the reason some people don’t believe in climate change is because it happens so slowly. What I think will happen in the future or in about 20-100 years is that I think that more of Antarctica will melt, and glaciers, causing sea levels to rise, and an increase in the average temperature, but I do not really know how it will effect people.

    • Kaydon says:

I also agree the earth’s climate is changing, and the temperature is increasing. Also I think that more precipitation would happen if the temperatures are increasing, because when there is higher temperatures more evaporation happens. Don’t you think so David? Also do you mind going into detail of why the temperatures increase, and find a way how this climate change could affect people. By the way Good Job Hank.

      • David says:

I also agree that there would be more precipitation if the temperature was higher, because of more evaporation, not including other factors. The temperature is currently increasing due to an increase in green house gas emissions, which trap more of the sun’s heat near the surface. Climate change can affect how people dress, eat, etc…. If it was really cold, people would dress in layers, and if it was really hot, someone might eat something cold.

      • luke says:

David i want to know what data did you get this infomation from and is the temperature and i think so to that some of antarctica will melt away i want to know more about the data from the past to now.

        • kenyon says:

Well, graphs have shown that there was a usual pattern in the temperature, until now, which have spiked upwards.

    • Jerricho says:

David you were actually close to your initial thought. You thought climate change was something that happens over time and it does, you said that in about 20-100 from now more of Antartica will melt and if we look at the temp of Antartica we can see that it is warming up. So David do you still agree with your initial thought or has it changed like the temp.

      • David says:

I still agree with my initial thought, and that more of antarctica will melt, because it is a current subject that is talked about frequently.

    • Will W. says:

I think you know what your talking about David, I agree with a lot of the stuff your saying and your using real information you remembered from real graphs. I liked how you pointed out that this stuff doesn’t happen all that fast.

    • mason says:

good job David but how do you think people or plants are affected by climate change like will it affect it like will plants have shorter growing seasons or will people die of desease’s that like the new climate here or will it not affect anything. here is a site i found about it.
      http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2013/01/pictures/130115-climate-change-superstorm-atmosphere-science/

      • David says:

Good question mason, but I think you answered it yourself because in the article it says that plants will have longer growing seasons, like in Minnesota because it is getting warmer (though it might be the opposite in places like California because it might get too warm), and that climate change will probably increase lung diseases.

  23. kenyon says:

yes it has it has changed drastically because you can see how in the middle of November it was flip flop weather and usually it is quite cold like 40-50 degrees it it was 60-68 which is not right I say it will get worse as we go more into the future people will get lazier and won’t care of course we will have those people that want to change it. its only going to get worse unless something is done because the ice caps are melting, trees are getting torn down and more and more factories are getting built causing more pollution and more waste into the bodies of water.

  24. Vinny says:

I think the climate will change but not that much, within a 50-100 years or so the climate will change and become warmer but if climate does change sea levels will be rising and we would have more floods because the glaciers and mountains and ice caps are melting.

  25. Jerricho says:

I think that the climate is changing with it getting warmer all around the world. in 20 years i think it will be pretty close to how it is now but slightly warmer because change take a long time and 20 years isn’t that far away i mean just look at movies before you know it there 10 years old and same for 30 years. 100 years will make a difference it will be warmer and less water but humanity can still live so my question to you is what do you think it will be like in 200 years or even 1000 years?

    • Josh says:

Jerricho I think that in 200 years a lot of coast cities will be gone because of the ice caps that will have melted. Another thing i think might happen is that in 200 or even 1000 years that people will realize what a problem global warming really is and will stop releasing green house gasses into the atmosphere and the temp will stop going up so steadily.

  26. Alera says:

Yes, I think that the climate is changing a lot and every day, but most of the time, I don’t think that we know it. Pollution or gases continue to rise in the air and back down again to the water. I think that Global Warming will change quickly and pollution will defeat blue waters into gray waters along with that Algae will become out of hand. In 100 years, I think that nobody will care about polluting the air or ocean waters. In 20 and 50 years, I also think that the more colder places will become warmer and ice will begin to melt. The warmer places will turn into wet areas or freezing because of Global Warming.

    • Violet says:

Why do you think this will happen to the planet? Other then that I think your answer was well thought out and you explained it very well using evidence and adding your own opinion. The earth could get warmer or colder depending on how you look at it,but I think the earth would get warmer and more precipitation because of global warming and more greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere.

  27. Carlito says:

I think that the world’s climate is changing because we are doing things such as the pipeline and global warming. What I think will happen in the future is that it’s probably gonna be super hot. In 20 years I bet it’s gonna be like a little bit warmer. Then in 50 years it’s going to be hot and in 100 years it’s going to be too hot for us to stand and probably die.

    • Nick says:

I agree with you that the future will be to hot for us all even for everything else that is living here and flash floods would happen more often winter and spring would be 30% wetter and summers will get much hotter,70 days per summers over 90 degrees , 30 days per summer over 100 degrees, Air quality would decrease.

  28. Violet says:

I think the global climate is changing because we had the ice age, then that melted away, now the climate is slowly getting warmer from global warming.I think it will get warmer because Antarctic is slowly melting away, there might not be any snow in 20,50,or 100 years from now not even at Arctic and Antarctic.I think the climate will be warmer in the next coming years. How do you stop global warming and can you determine the main cause of global warming?

  29. Jayson says:

Do some work done and don’t get distracted.

  30. Marissa says:

Our climate is changing, but very slowly. The Earth doesn’t have a specific climate that it will stay at forever. Remember the ice age? Now its warm. The Earth will continue to become warmer, global warming is helping with this. Remember in our books, warm watered mussels were found on the coast of Greenland? This proves that Greenland used to be a warm place. Even in Antarctica, dinosaur fossils were found there. For the dinosaur to live there leafy plants would’ve also had to be there. Antarctica wasn’t always cold. Earth is changing and it always will be. It’s very hard to say what the climate will be like in 100, 50, and even 20 years. But my guess is that in 20 years it will be very hot because of global warming. After that it is very hard to say.

  31. nick L says:

I think what will happen is that the world will probably get hotter or maybe something else could happen a lot could happen in the future don’t know if it will be hot or cold be think its gonna be hot

  32. olivia says:

I definitely think climate change is real and is only going to get worse unless we do something. Climate change is already starting to affect the plant, this winter is the warmest ever on record. The world is being affect in many ways like massive hurricanes and tropical storms which are made worse by worming oceans. The ice caps are already starting to melt and this is causing a rise in cost lines all around the world. It is scary to think what the world will be like in 20 or 50 years when there are still so many people who refuse to believe in its existence. If nothing is done to revers the affects of global climate change then there will likely be many more devastating tropical storms, receding cost lines, and much wormer winter every where.

  33. Shai says:

I think that the global climate will heat up due to pollution weakening the ozone layer. The heat could potentially melt arctic zones leading to glaciers letting off water faster than the world could handle. The sudden rush of water could cause more floods that the organisms who inherit the world couldn’t deal with quick enough.

  34. Will W. says:

I think the world is getting warmer. The Arctic’s ice is starting to melt and not freeze back, and I think the world is gonna get more rain in the next 100 years. place like Canada and Minnesota are gonna get warmer and are gonna get less snow. This is what think about this.

    • luke says:

William why do you think that we are going to get lest snow i just want to know how you think that there is going to be less snow

    • Carlito says:

I agree with you William, I think there won’t be that much snow also because it’s getting hotter in the average temperature. Also, it’s been warmer then the average temperature for the past 10 years. I too believe there will be more precipitation because the sun is part of the water cycle and with the sun beams being like warmer would cause more evaporation. By the way, could you explain how you think there will be more rain and less snow?

  35. jayson says:

Yeah because the climate is changing it’s hotter both in the summer and the big winter then it was before. In the future I think It’ll rain less. I think it’ll be hotter in the future. I think Bemidji will be more hot in the future.

  36. Nick says:

I think that the climate will be hotter in 50 years the summers would be very hot and there will be more rain storms and for the winter i think its going to be less colder than it was before. In 100 years it would probably even more hot than 50 years ago it would also kill crops from it being so hot.

  37. Priscilla says:

I think that the weather will increase because more greenhouse gases are being trapped in the atmosphere and the amounts of precipitation are increasing which means the Earths surface is being heated up. That causes the water vapor to rise and that adds more gases to the atmosphere but they only remain up there temporarily.
