Sink holes that occur often in central america are a cause of erosion. These huge gaping holes in the ground are detrimental to communities since whatever falls into the hole is not easily recovered and very likely destroyed.

The annual forest fires in California and Oregon are natural disasters. Every year these fires burn thousand of acres of forest and some times residential areas. While these fires can do a lot of damage, they are very important to the overall growth of the forest.

One natural disaster I’ve heard about was hurricane Irma, which was a category 5 hurricane that occurred in September of 2017. The highest windspeed was 185 mph, it affected areas such as Puerto Rico and Florida. In Puerto Rico homes, businesses, and people were completely destroyed from the horrific weather of this hurricane.

A hazardous event that I know is the volcano eruption of Pompeii which was somewhere in Italy around the 7th century and left many dead and plasters of their bodies were left behind that scientist study.

One of the major hazardous events that has happened in the United States in recent years is Flint, Michigan. In Flint, peoples’ water has face inadequate treatment, resulting in high quantities of lead in water and health issues. This problem has gone majorly unchecked by the government, even when the situation was brought to major media networks. As of today, the water in Flint has been deemed within federal and state standards for lead and is drinkable after switching to the Detroit water system, but lead is still making it into residents drinking water.

A hazardous event I’ve heard about was the hurricane in Florida. Or actually, I remember that tornado thing in Oklahoma. And how damaging it was to the state, or city, wherever it was. And I just remember how bad it looked from seeing the pictures of its aftermath. I think I mostly remember it because of a basketball team for Oklahoma in the NBA and thinking of how Kevin Durant donated 1 million dollars to the tornado relief thing and I just thought that was cool. Not the tornado, the donation.

A event that I have heard the most about was a lead infected water disaster in flint Michigan. All I know about it was that pipes or something about them had lead which lead to it getting in the water making many people sick.

Recently, I’ve heard about the forest fires in California burning down many acres of land. One of the largest active fires in California is the Creek fire which has burned over 300,000 acres so far and only 70% of it has been contained.

A natural disaster i’ve heard of recently is an earthquake. Earthquakes are caused when there is a sudden slip in a fault which sends a waves of vibrations to the crust of the earth. I think all earthquakes can be dangerous however they are most often dangerous around areas of the San Francisco faults.
