Personal Choices and Climate Change

Identify two ways that your choices and actions affect climate change and what they do. Remember, choices can affect it in a positive or negative way. For example, I grow many of my own vegetables so that less of my food has to be trucked in. This reduces the CO2 emitted through burning fossil fuels. (You cannot use this as one of your examples.)

We raise are own chickens for eggs and then eventually meat, this reduces the coal and gas used to transport them to use, as well as the land and resources used to raise the chickens. We don’t own an electric car so every time we use the cars we are adding to the Co2 in the atmosphere as well as the demand for gas and coal.

There are several actions that I am able to take that either negatively or positively affect climate change. One positive way that I am able to affect climate change is through reusing, or repurposing, items. For example, you can make yarn for crocheting out of plastic from bags, from which you can make new bags! One negative way that I affect climate change is the use of vehicles like my family’s cars, which contributes to the increasing amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. I could attempt to lower my affect on climate change by using public transportation.

We use wind power for our electricity so we don’t have to use coal which lowers our footprint. We also use a wood burner for heat which is good and bad. It’s bad because it releases carbon but trees are replantable.

While in WV someone told us that every time you turn on a light switch a mountain top blows off, they didn’t mean literally every time but it put into perspective how something so small has such a big impact. I am now more aware of how many lights I keep on. A negative impact is when I go to work in the mornings I let my car run for a bit while it heats up, even though it may be a few minutes those few minutes do pollute.

One thing that I do that affects climate change is make sure all the lights are turned off before going to sleep. In West Virginia we were taught every time you turn a light on is a mountain top getting blown off, mine is positive because I am trying to save the environment from getting torn up as well as making people more healthy. As well as unplugging stuff when I am not using it, my dog sleeps in the back room where we have to keep a heater on and I set a timer on when to unplug it as well as making sure it’s warm, this is also positive because I am saving energy that could be blowing a mountain top off.

Two ways that first come to mind when i think of how i contribute to climate change is driving. Driving as a passenger or sometimes when i drive for practice is polluting the atmosphere by releasing carbon dioxide. And another way that i also contribute towards bettering climate change is walking to a place that isn’t super far while i’m in the cities or just walking in general.

Starting positively some of my choices affect the environment positively like growing a garden where during the summer me and my mom grow many vegetables like green beans another positive thing I do is only drive when needed and I don’t buy anything I don’t need. On the other side of the spectrum I do still drive a car which burns gas and emits harmful toxins also I use electricity which a lot of comes from most likely fossil fuels. I also buy some products that are mined using heavy metals which can destroy the environment and give cancer to many people.

A way that my family tries to be more environmentally friendly is by using compost while growing our food like fruits and veggies to avoid having to resort to less natural forms like store bought compost and we also use a fair amount of solar power for a lot of stuff and just make use of the stuff around us however we can.

A way I positively affect climate change is by taking less trips to stores by buying all the things we need at once. A way I negatively affect climate change is by riding snowmobiles and four-wheelers for fun and releasing co2.

My family has a composting bin outside that we use during the other seasons. In doing this we are helping the environment by not throwing away organic waste. My mother usually plants a tree or two every 2-3 years. She hopes that those trees can someday help improve the air quality.

The first thing that comes to my mind when I think about how I contribute to climate change has to do with electricity. Sometimes I forget to turn off lights which produces carbon dioxide emissions in that moment. But one thing I can do is to try and reduce the amount of lighting in my house is to keep checking what lights I need in order to go on with daily routines.

i effect the environment in good and bad ways one bad way is i drive to places so i use fossil fuels one good way is i use composting as well .

  13. Josh says:

I could choose to use different energy sources, and by doing so I could support organizations that make clean energy.

My family tries to keep a good environment by shutting the lights off when they are not being used. We also pick up trash whenever there is some to pick up.
